i forgot to dvr snl last night and slept through it (with the exception of waking up at one point, turning it on, hearing amy shout ‘really?!’ and falling back asleep)

it is now 11:30 am on a sunday morning and i’m waiting for technology to deliver.
i ‘subscribed’ to the snl page on hulu to be alerted when new episodes were up.
the official snl twitter account tweeted a link to a clip. so clips, but no full episode yet.
furthermore, that nbc.com video page allegedly with said clips doesn’t even work reliably (well, we experienced this with the office webisodes, did we not?), but instead reprimands me to be patient while i sit and stare at myself in the reflection.

in the words of seth and amy: “REALLY?!”there’s no excuse for this. it’s late 2009, get it together.  it’s not an unreasonable expectation.
in this viral age, people want and expect access to content immediately, and will make it happen, with or without you.  and it does happen. torrents go up of television shows immediately after air all the time (sometimes beforehand even, thanks to canada’s weird ability to get our tv shows a day before we even do. but that’s another story.)
so it could only benefit your brand to be the one facilitating immediate access to your own content; instead of wasting time filing copyright claims on the accounts of everyone who beat you to the punch, shaming you with the technology you’re too out-of-touch to understand. of course, i don’t assume for a minute that nbc cares at all about that. hulu’s a good start, but there’s a lot of work to be done.
hint: it’s not about skipping ads, it’s about convenience. just hire some leet hacker kids to run your video page, and have the episode available on demand right away - full of ads even. i don’t care. i’ll voluntarily watch commercials for that kind of convenience.
what makes it more shameful is the fact that many clips of ‘late night with jimmy fallon’ ARE available online, officially, immediately after air on the nbc-run late night page itself (sometimes BEFORE air!).   *same network.* so, a little progress. they’re doing something right somewhere, at least. but it just highlights the incompetence even more.
and they wonder why people turn to p2p sharing and the youtubes. ironically, SNL is the very ‘thing’ that made youtube a household name (lazy sunday, never forget. research that on your own time if you’re new, but it’s a fact).  it filled a void where the network failed to provide. so it’s a sorry state that it’s been, how many years since that?  you have hired a staff of people to watch the internet like hawks and police illegal usage of your content, but you have yet to figure out the rest. congratulations.
that loading screen might as well say “meh. we fail. go rant on tumblr.”
[here’s a weird side-note.  there are 3 full snl episodes up for viewing on hulu; the first 3 of the season (megan fox, ryan reynolds, drew barrymore). this does not include the last one (gerard butler), which aired three weeks ago.   however i found a link to it via google, the video does not play (surprise).   what is that even about?  way to make no sense, nbc.]
